A “point-source” effect is created when speaker drivers are concentrated in a location such that the listener experiences focused sound coming from a specific location.
Phase-coherent sound allows for full sound to travel over greater distances and cover a larger area with less loss due to phase distortion or phase collision.
The HLH 312 speaker enclosure is designed to deliver point-source performance with outstanding phase coherency. The result: a wide frequency, full sound output throughout the entire listening area without the comb-filtering and phase distortions associated with typical rectangular speaker enclosures.
The graphic above illustrates the 6 arrays that occur in typical 4x12 enclosures. These arrays typically interact with each other such that significant phase distortion and array collisions occur degrading the radiated sound waves resulting in sound that dramatically changes in quality as you walk around.
In the proprietary HLH 312 enclosure from 3RD POWER, the 3 arrays that occur represent a 50% improvement in array-source wave propagation when compared to a typical 4x12. To further enhance performance, we chose the Celestion Vintage 30 for it's remarkable guitar sound and constant directivity properties. Additionally, each driver is placed as close as possible to one another improving time alignment and enhancing the point-source effect.
With the HLH312 guitar cabinet from 3RD POWER, the result is a rich, thick guitar tone that's incredibly huge and responsive throughout the entire performance area - we like to call this the 3RD POWER, "Tone Sauna!"
